What makes it “bacteriostatic”
This vial contains sterile water for injection (USP) preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol (NF) — the United States Pharmacopeia specification for multi-use parenteral preparations. Benzyl alcohol functions as a bacteriostatic preservative by disrupting bacterial cell membrane integrity and interfering with membrane-associated transport processes, preventing colonization of the solution. This is what allows the vial to be safely punctured and drawn from multiple times, unlike standard sterile water for injection, which is preservative-free and designed for single-use injection only. Product specifications
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP is a sterile, nonpyrogenic preparation of water for injection containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) of benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative, with a pH of 5.7 (4.5 to 7.0). It is sterilized using a 0.22 µm filtration process under aseptic fill conditions. At this concentration, the vial supports repeated withdrawals for up to 28 days under proper aseptic handling. How to use
When drawing the solution for peptide reconstitution, invert the vial and insert the needle through the center of the stopper, drawing slowly to the desired volume since rapid withdrawal creates air bubbles that compromise measurement accuracy. Inject the solvent into the peptide vial along the inside glass wall rather than directly onto the lyophilized powder, then swirl gently in a circular motion until the powder dissolves completely — do not shake, vortex, or invert vigorously, as mechanical agitation can denature peptide secondary structure. Storage and handling
